The Village of Flossmoor is proud to present an exciting cultural attraction for our Village and region called the Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens. This public art program is the first of its kind in Chicago and surrounding regions and states. The Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens is unique because works of art are installed in our village square, along charming residential streets and in the Flossmoor Garden and Sculpture Park, which was designed by notable Chicago landscape architect Peter Lindsay Schaudt.

The Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens program was established in 1998 through private donations and an Illinois FIRST grant. Since that time, the Flossmoor Village Board and the Flossmoor Public Art Commission have maintained their vision of making Flossmoor home to a rotating exhibit of world-class sculpture in garden settings. Outdoor sculpture is installed throughout the Village via a cooperative lease program with well-known artists and through an innovative arrangement with 3-D Chicago, the host of the Navy Pier Walk in Chicago. The Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens’ current collection consists of six permanent sculptures by distinguished artists Bruce Beasley, Richard Hunt, Howard Kalish, Terry Karpowicz, Mark Lundeen and Judith Shea and four rotational artworks by artists Stephen Fischer, Michio Ihara, Scott McMillin, and Antoinette Schultze.

NEWS: On July 1, 2005, the Flossmoor Public Art Commission announced a national call for large-scale outdoor sculpture for their rotating sculpture exhibition. Works must be suitable for the Midwest climate. Accepted works will be on loan for three years. An honorarium will be given. Artists may submit up to three pieces represented by up to six digital images. Artists must submit an entry form, $25 entry fee, resume, and artist statement. Submission is ongoing; those received by September 1st will be considered for Fall 2005 placement. Images may be burned onto CD or submitted via email. Click here, to download the prospectus and entry form or send SASE for prospectus to Blaine Wing, Flossmoor Village Hall, 2800 Flossmoor Road, Flossmoor, IL 60422. For information on permanent and rotating works in the Flossmoor Sculpture Gardens, please email Blaine Wing at bwing@flossmoor.org or contact the Village of Flossmoor by phone at (708) 798-2300.
