“All that has ever been is in this moment; all that will be is in this moment. Both are meeting in one living flame, in this unique instant of time. This is drama; this is theatre -- to be aware of the Now.”
- Robert Edmond Jones, The Dramatic Imaginatio
The Illinois Theatre Center was founded in 1976 in the belief that a vigorous artistic and cultural life should be part of all communities. It is through theatre that we hope to enrich the quality of life for all area residents. Through the world of theatre we want our audiences to appreciate man’s infinite diversity of expression and the vast range of human invention. Along with our seven-play mainstage season, we have an active outreach program which provides special programming for the elderly, the handicapped and the economically disadvantaged. We also hold several workshop productions of new and classic plays and free outdoor Shakespeare.

- Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune
“There are more than a few theatres in Chicago proper that might take note of ITC’s new stage as well as what’s on it.”
- Andrew Patner, Chicago Sun-Times
